Thai food is becoming increasingly popular, possibly as a result of the popularity of Thailand as holiday destination.

Thai food is influenced by Indian and Chinese cuisine but tends to be more subtle and more fragrant. The food is based on a balance of the five fundamental flavours - spicy, sour, sweet, salty and bitter. A particular feature is the use of grilled meats, coconut milk, citrus (lemongrass & lime), fresh herbs and fish sauce. Another feature of Thai food is that of sharing, with a selection of dishes served from which each of the diners can select a taster, rather then each person having a single main course.

The only Thai restaurant I have been to recently was the Thai Boathouse which is in (wait for it) a converted boathouse on the banks of the river Avon in Stratford. The location is excellent, overlooking the river, and the food was very good. It is, as you might expect, popular and it is as well to book.
