Coleshill was an important staging post during the days of the coaching trade and was on the major coaching roads between London and Holyhead, Chester and Liverpool. Many coaching inns remain from the old days particularly in the High Street.

The origin of the term 'Cock & Bull' story is said to derive from two coaching inns named respectively 'The Cock' and 'The Bull'.
The first house to have purpose-built servant's quarters was Coleshill House in Berkshire, seat of the Pleydell-Bouveries.
The architect of Coleshill House influenced the design of Belton House in Lincolnshire where, it is said, King William III so enjoyed an overnight stay that he was too hung over to eat any of the food provided on his state visit to Lincoln the following day.
There is a Coleshill Food Festival held in September each year, but that is in the Coleshill in Oxfordshire.

From a gastronomic point of view Coleshill is home to one of the only specifically Bangladeshi restaurant in the county and it is also just over the border from the home of the Balti, which was apparently invented not in India or Baltimore, as you might expect, but in Birmingham.
