Hotels in Rugby
The market town of Rugby is located 13 miles east of Coventry. It was first settled in the Iron Age and is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as ‘Rocheberie’. Modern-day Rugby is most famous for the invention of Rugby football. Legend has it that the game was invented by William Webb Ellis in 1823 at Rugby School, which is one of England's oldest and most prestigious public schools, and was the setting of Thomas Hughes's semi-autobiographical masterpiece ‘Tom Brown's Schooldays’. Rugby is also where, in April 1937, Sir Frank Whittle built the world's first prototype jet engine.
