Hotels in Shipston-on-Stour

The northernmost part of the beautiful Cotswolds edges into Warwickshire and centres around on the old sheep market town of Shipston-on-Stour. This rural part of southern Warwickshire is located on the River Stour on the A3400 road between Stratford-upon-Avon and Oxford and was once an important stopping place for stagecoaches. Many former coaching inns remain in the town in the area of the High Street. Its name is derived from the Anglo-Saxon "Scepwaeisctune" meaning "Sheep-wash-Town".

There are a number of coaching inns and hotels in Shipston-on-Stour, the best know of which is probably The White Bear Hotel, a lively traditional pub situated on the A3400 in the north Cotswold's, offering good food and fine ales. You can be assured of a warm welcome from the friendly staff whether for a quick drink or a short break.

The hotel offers: 10 comfortable ensuite bedrooms (non-smoking), all with colour television and tea/coffee making facilities; 2 bars with a range of bar snacks and light meals; the recently refurbished Restaurant offers a wonderful modern setting; and the Brunswick Suite is suitable for a multitude of meeting & private function uses. The White Bear Hotel is the perfect location from which to tour the heart of England. The University City of Oxford, Shakespeare's Stratford and the working towns of the Cotswold's such as Stow-on-the-Wold, Moreton-in-Marsh and Chipping Norton are all just a short trip away.
